DAY 1 - SHENANDOAH VALLEY / MOUNT VERNON / IWO JIMA MEMORIAL: It's Autumn, and what a beautiful time to board our Luxury Motorcoach and enjoy a restful drive, as we travel up through the peaceful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. After lunch, we'll make our way to our Nation's Captial, Washington, D.C., a grand and stately city of imposing naural shrines and monuments that testify to some of America's greatest names. Before we check into our motel for a two night stay, we will tour Mt. Vernon, the exquisite home of George and Martha Washington. |
| DAY 2 -- SIGHTSEEING OUR NATION'S CAPITAL / ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY: Extensive sightseeing today! During our scenic drive we view the Capitol Building with its impressive dome; the Jefferson Memorial, dedicated to the author of our DECLARATION of INDEPENDENCE; the Lincoln, Vietnam Wall, Korean, and World War II Memorials, situated in West Potomac Park; Ford’s Theater, where President Lincoln was assassinated; the famous Watergate Buildings, the Washington Monument and the Smithsonian Institute. We will view the White House where every American President except George Washington has lived. Our next stop will be Arlington National Cemetery. We will see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which overlooks a green lawn bordered by beech hedges. "Here rests in honored glory an American Soldier known but to God". We will see changing of the guard as a solitary soldier paces out his guard of honor before the tomb. You will see the grave of the late President John F. Kennedy, marked by the Eternal Flame, on the sloping hillside below the Curtis-Lee Memorial. Rough fieldstones from Cape Cod cover the plot, which contrasts strongly with the marble platform. The monument is moving in its great beauty and simplicity. The grave of the late Senator Robert Kennedy is nearby. After such a day of sightseeing, you'll be able to relax and enjoy dinner at one of the fine Restaurants in the area of our motel. |
| DAY-3 – HOMEWARD BOUND: We can now say that we have a better understanding of our nation, its rich history, and how it is run. You've seen a lot of Washington during one of its most beautiful seasons, but it's time to make our way home and say our good-bye's to our past and new-found friends. It's been a great time of fun and fellowship together. We arrive back in the Tri-Cities by early evening. |
