TOUR #1045 - 9-DAY NEW ENGLAND FALL FOLIAGE:
October 02 - October 10, 2010
DAY 1  SHENANDOAH VALLEY / MONTICELLO AT CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA: Leaving the Tri-Cities this morning, we head north toward the gorgeous New England area. We will enjoy the scenic drive up through the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We will be stopping for lunch near Natural Bridge, before arriving in Charlottesville, where we will visit Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson.

 

 

DAY 2  WASHINGTON, D.C.: This morning we leave the beautiful farm lands of northern Virginia and continue traveling north, we have a short drive to Washington, D.C., Our Nations Capital, where our guide will point out some of the sights of our nations capital. Before checking into our motel, we will visit Liberty Park to view the Statue of Liberty and the New York Harbor.

 

DAY 3  GREEN MOUNTAINS OF VERMONT AND BENNINGTON MUSEUM: Today we begin entering the heart of New England, arrayed in all her tall splendor. You will see the awe-inspiring Green Mountains of Vermont adorned in autumn’s blazing colors. After stopping for lunch near Bennington, Vermont, we will visit the Bennington Museum to view Grandma Moses paintings and her schoolhouse. We will then continue traveling across Hogback Mountain to the beautiful area of White River Jct., for our next overnight stop.

 

DAY 4NEW HAMPSHIRE'S MAGNIFICENT WHITE MOUNTAINS / PORTLAND, MAINE: Departing White River Jct. this morning, it will seem as though we are traveling through an oil painting with flaming fall colors all around us. We will view the high mountain peaks and scenic notches of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The Flume Gorge will be yours to enjoy today along with the Beautiful Kancamagus Highway billed as the most scenic highway in the State of New Hampshire. During this time of year, these mountains are blaring with colors of russets, oranges, red and yellow. We will visit L.L. Bean Outlet Store for shopping before arriving in Portland, Maine.  We will visit the famous Portland Headlight, the first lighthouse authorized by the U.S. Government and one of the oldest still in use today. Our overnight stop will be in the area of Portland, Maine.

 

DAY 5ATLANTIC COAST / BOSTON / PLYMOUTH ROCK / MAYFLOWER II: This morning we board our motorcoach for a very exciting day. Leaving Portland we travel down one of the most Beautiful Atlantic Coastal areas between Portland, Maine and Boston, Massachusetts, covering the 105 Scenic - Packed miles in time for a historic tour of the city of Boston. We will enjoy such sights as The Old North Church, The Old State House, Boston Commons, The USS Constitution, Faneuil Hall and much, much more.  Traveling south, we travel through Plymouth, MA where we will stop to view Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower II. It was on Plymouth Rock that the Pilgrims landed in December 1620 to found the first permanent American Settlement north of Virginia. You will find the Mayflower quite interesting, especially when you consider the size of the vessel and the amount of time the passengers were aboard it. Overnight stop is in the Cape Cod area.

 

DAY 6    HYANNIS PORT / HARBOR CRUISE / MYSTIC SEAPORT: This morning we'll enjoy a relaxing Harbor Cruise at Hyannis Port, viewing the beautiful mansions and the home of the Kennedy's in the beautiful harbor area. After our cruise, we will visit the John F. Kennedy Memorial at Hyannis Port. Leaving the Cape Cod area this morning, we travel past the cranberry bogs. Overnight stop is in the area of New York City.

 

DAY 7     PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH I AMISH COUNTRY: Today we leave the New England States, traveling south, we head for the "Land of the Hex", the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. We will stop at Liberty Square in Philadelphia to view the Liberty Bell, before continuing on to the Dutch Country.  We will drive through the beautiful farm lands known for its Amish and Mennonite population. You will enjoy a wonderful nights sleep here in the heart of this quiet Amish area where accommodations await us for the night. A visit to the Amish Country would not be complete without setting down at the Big Tables for an Amish style meal. Yes, you will enjoy a delicious Amish style meal (included) tonight.

 

DAY 8  – SIGHTSEEING PENNSYLVANlA DUTCH COUNTRY AND GETTYSBURG: This morning after breakfast, we have a guided tour of the picturesque and productive Farmlands of Lancaster County. You will enjoy learning of the different lifestyles of the people of this area. The farmers,  choosing not to use modern machinery, use horses and mules to plow and  harvest their crops. We will have an opportunity to visit a farmers’ market and sample the true homemade products. Leaving this quaint area, we travel a short distance to Gettysburg. One of the most important and hotly-contested battles of the Civil War was waged here on July 1-3, 1863.  It was here, also, that Lincoln delivered the famous Gettysburg address. After our tour of the Battlefields,  we visit the home of General Dwight D. Eisenhower.  Then we travel on to Winchester, Virginia, where in 1748, George Washington began his surveying career.  Our overnight stop will be in the area of Winchester, Virginia.  

 

DAY 9  –  NATURAL BRIDGE / HOMEWARD BOUND: This morning board our motorcoach for the last day or our tour. Traveling south, we enjoy once again the changing foliage of the Beautiful Shenandoah Valley.  We will have our morning break at Natural Bridge before continuing on to Roanoke, VA for lunch. We are loaded with souvenirs and wonderful memories of our exciting tour of New England. This has been a beautiful and historical tour, but as all good things must come to a close, we must bid farewell to our old and new found friends.
